Who We Are
Founded in 2016, Take Two NYC is a fully volunteer-run public charity that strives to alleviate stresses experienced by street-sleeping New Yorkers and others in need by increasing access to essential supplies – mainly new socks. These items have the power to provide comfort, stimulate confidence, and strengthen resilience.
Small acts can have BIG IMPACT!
What We Do
We collaborate with schools, community organizations, and businesses and have collected thousands of pairs of new socks through one-night events, corporate partnerships that incentivize giving, and sock drives that run between 2-4 weeks.
Distributions are done on foot by volunteers in public parks and train stations, on subway platforms and sidewalks, and through partnerships with mobile food distributors. We serve individuals in all five boroughs of New York City and more!
Education
Take Two NYC partners with schools across the New York City metro area to run school-wide sock drives, inviting students, their families, and staff to participate. We also offer classroom programs that are paired with the sock drives to further engage students with our mission. Our approach emphasizes non-judgment, cultivates compassion, and promotes empathy. Through supplying information and facilitating a combination of inquiry and reflection exercises, we grow students’ understanding of the great number and variety of people affected by homelessness in New York City.
